Choreography: Lucinda Belcher and Simon Woodbridge
The DVD was a representation of the show; I hope it showed the high energy, comedy, fantastic music and story. Our production will have all of that and more as the amateur script does vary from the West end version. If you check out: http://www.ourhousethemusical.co.uk/ and check out video there are interviews with the creative team and a few clips of the tour version.
SWMTC’s production WILL be a full company show with lots going on for everyone ... THERE ARE NO AGE limits as I hope the chorus and character breakdown below will show... Everyone will be in the chorus numbers with things to do.
I want a company that can be Teachers, neighbours, tourists, market stall holders as well as Joe’s friends all enjoying the Madness experience and as one of the first companies in the country to perform the show.
Principal Roles:
(Any ages are playing ages and not reflective of a person’s real age if they can play younger... so if you are 35 capable of playing 18 go for it!)
Joe: Sixteen, rough diamond but a diamond non the less Actor 16 -24
Sarah: girl next door, slightly more middle class Actress 16 -24
Emmo and Lewis: Joe’s best mates, Emmo a big kid who would chase sticks if you threw them. Lewis a sensitive lad with a more exposed moral nerve 16 -24
Billie and Angie: Sarah’s best mated, sharp tongued, sassy with their eyes on a way out of their lowly social beginnings. Intolerant of males, except well bred ones. 16-24
Joe’s mum Kath: Beaten down by life but never beaten, a huge heart, feisty love for her family. 40 -60
Joe’s dad: A man of fun and spirit who married the right woman but took the wrong path in life, died as a result and is now desperate for his son to make the right choices. 40 -50
Reecey: a smiling, charming, superficially likeable force of darkness 25-35
Mister Pressman Like Reecey except middle age and in control of a large company: 40 -50
Heather: a business woman
Julie a secretary both these characters have solo lines
Company consisting of:
Schoolkids, relatives, barristers, clowns, dogs, prisoners, market traders, tourists, teachers, copa style dancers, business people

Audition INFO
Auditions will be held on Sunday 28th February at
536 Ipswich Rd Slough
From 9.30am to 12pm
Acting pieces will be published on the SWMTC website shortly
A dance / movement routine will be taught at the workshop on Wednesday 24th Feb and repeated as part of the auditions on 28th Feb
Singing pieces will NOT be taught prior to the auditions:
You will be asked to choose a pop song of your choice (ideally a madness number ... some suggestions and lyrics below) or an 80s style song NOT a musical theatre number. This will be sung unaccompanied – This is so the panel can see you perform a song you know well and relax doing so. Marc our MD would like to see if you can sing in tune without the pressure of worrying about notes and words. The acoustics at Ipswich rd are very good and we will be able to judge who can sing and perform from there. ( a bit like xfactor auditions but with Simon Woodbridge not Cowell )
Anyway for the roles of Joe and Sarah and mum
Perhaps it must be love:
I never thought I'd miss you Half as much as I do And I never thought I'd feel this way The way I feel about you As soon as I wake up every night every day I know that it's you I need To take the blues away
It must be love, love, love It must be love, love, love Nothing more, nothing less Love is the best
How can it be That we can say so much without words Bless you and bless me Bless the bees and the birds I've got to be near you every night, every day I couldn't be happy any other way
It must be love, love, love It must be love, love, love Nothing more, nothing less Love is the best
Instrumental
As soon as I wake up every night every day I know that it's you I need To take the blues away
It must be love, love, love It must be love, love, love

For Emmo and Lewis
My Girl
My girl's mad at me I didn't wanna see the film tonight I found it hard to say She thought I'd had enough of her Why can't she see She's lovely to me? But I like to stay in And watch t.v. on my own Every now and then
My girl's mad at me Been on the telephone for an hour We hardly said a word I tried and tried but I could not be heard Why can't I explain? Why do I feel this pain? 'Cause everything I say She doesn't understand She doesn't realise She takes it all the wrong way
My girl's mad at me We argued just the other night I thought we'd got it straight We talked and talked until it was light I thought we'd agreed I thought we'd talked it out Now when I try to speak She says that I don't care She says I'm unaware And now she says I'm weak
For Reecey Baggy Trousers
Naughty boys in nasty schools Headmasters breaking all the rules Having fun and playing fools Smashing up the woodwork tools All the teachers in the pub Passing 'round the ready-rub Trying not to think of when The lunch-time bell will ring again.
Oh what fun we had But, did it really turn out bad All I learnt at school Was how to bend not break the rules Oh what fun we had But at the time it seemed so bad Trying different ways To make a difference to the days.
Headmaster's had enough to-day All the kids have gone away Gone to fight with next-door's school Every term, that is the rule Sits alone and bends his cane Same old backsides again All the small ones tell tall tales Walking home and squashing snails.
Oh what fun we had But, did it really turn out bad All I learnt at school Was how to bend not break the rules Oh what fun we had But at the time it seemed so bad Trying different ways To make a difference to the days.
Lots of girls and lots of boys Lots of smells and lots of noise Playing football in the park Kicking Pushbikes after dark Baggy trousers, dirty shirt Pulling hair and eating dirt Teacher comes to break it up Back of the 'ead with a plastic cup.
Oh what fun we had But, did it really turn out bad All I learnt at school Was how to bend not break the rules Oh what fun we had But at the time it seemed so bad Trying different ways To make a difference to the days.
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers

I remember way back then when everything was true and when We would have such a very good time such a fine time Such a happy time And I remember how we'd play simply waste the day away Then we'd say nothing would come between us two dreamers
Father wears his Sunday best Mother's tired she needs a rest The kids are playing up downstairs Sister's sighing in her sleep Brother's got a date to keep He can't hang around
